A technology service provider has started a new collaboration with a globally recognised manufacturer of ejection seats and aviation safety equipment. This initiative is designed to enhance operational efficiency and future-proof its operations through modifications to its SAP enterprise structure and other upgrades.
The consultancy has previously delivered several projects for this customer, including the deployment of the PreBilt™ solution. This implementation greatly increased operational visibility, streamlined manual processes, and improved usability for personnel.
Transition to SAP S/4HANA
As part of its digital progression, the manufacturer is moving from SAP ECC to SAP S/4HANA, opting for a brownfield implementation. This approach required a review of the existing enterprise structure, which had remained static with one plant and one warehouse, even though the company is active across three UK sites.
In early 2024, the consultancy was appointed to undertake a feasibility study and provide tailored recommendations based on SAP best practices. The proposal suggested the completion of the S/4HANA upgrade prior to implementing a revised enterprise structure, recommending the adoption of two plants and three warehouses.
Upcoming Implementation Phase
With the S/4HANA upgrade nearing its conclusion, the customer is now moving forward with the recommended enterprise structure changes. Additional system enhancements identified during discovery are also set for implementation. These include upgrades to PreBilt and modifications to SAP to support inter-site stock transfers and Available to Promise (ATP) functionality.
Detailed Assessment and PoC Activities
- Thorough review to support inter-site transfers and ATP requirements.
- Prototype in the sandbox environment highlighting the proposed structure changes.
- Review of high-level design to key stakeholders, supported by documentation and next-phase recommendations.
- Evaluation of enhancement needs for the PreBilt mobility solution.
- Finalisation on the strategy for inventory transfer and master data alignment.
- Definition of next steps for design and implementation phases.
